What is Dog Parkour?

Dog Parkour is the canine version of urban agility

The Goal is…

For your dog to move through the landscape playing with whatever happens to be there.

Your dog leans basic skills that include putting 2 front feet on, all 4 feet on, going under or over, going around, walking on a narrow surface, or rebounding off of vertical surfaces.

It builds both your dog’s fitness and confidence while also developing a sense of self control and thoughtfulness. It’s designed to be a sport dogs can participate in for their entire life!

Even better, Parkour can be practiced anywhere! Outside this might be on your walk using fences, retaining walls, bike racks, fire hydrants or street poles. In a park there are park benches, picnic tables, logs, stumps, gates, trash cans, and trees or maybe a playground. You can also play in your house using chairs, step stools, broom sticks, cushions, or boxes. The possibilities are limitless.

Introduction to Parkour

Here’s your chance to find out what Dog Parkour is all about!

It’s a new sport that evolved out of human parkour. It’s all about moving across the landscape using whatever is there as obstacles to interact with. This workshop will introduce you to what parkour is, how it is practiced, and some of the basic moves that you can use to play, right from day one

Dates & Times: TO BE ANNOUNCED

Advanced Parkour Workshop-All Things Back Feet and Creativity

This workshop focuses on rear end awareness. Most dogs do not come by this automatically. We will work on Rear Foot Targeting, Backing Up, and Pivots. While dogs are required to have some experience with parkour to take this workshop, they do not need to be fluent at any of these behaviors. Activities will be tailored to the individual dog’s ability.

Creativity, in parkour, is learning to do more than one behavior on an obstacle. This builds both focus and self-control as well as building the ability to experiment with novel objects.

What sets Dog Parkour apart from other dog sports?

Creativity.

There is no limit to what you can use to play with and creating new moves is encouraged. Dogs sometimes even invent their own. It can also be modified for dogs of any age and skill level including elderly dogs and young puppies.

Physical disabilities, such as hip dysplasia, being a tripod, and arthritis can be accommodated with modifications of moves and I’m currently developing a new parkour course for blind dogs.

Join the Facebook Group

Once you have taken a class you are eligible to join the Nimble Paws Dog Parkour private Facebook group. You can post pictures and videos of what your dog is doing and ask any questions you might have.

Attend Events

You are also eligible to join us for Parkour in the Park events. We meet up as a group to practice parkour in different locations in the area.

Anyone is free to suggest a location and time. I facilitate your dog’s learning to work with novel items in different environments. It’s an opportunity to meet and work with other people in the sport.

Earn a Title in

Dog Parkour!

2. Ways to Earn Titles:

  • Video Submission: Submit videos directly to the International Dog Parkour Association.

  • In-Person or Video Evaluation: Evaluated by me at Parkour in the Park events, in class (for some behaviors), by special appointment, or by sending your video to me.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Choose Between two Foundation Titles:

  • Training Title (For dogs under 18 months): opens doors to select Specialty Titles.

  • Novice Title (For dogs 18 months and older): leading to all other titles.
